Motions in Federal Courts
Find, count, and analyze motions filed in U.S. District courts.
Motion and Pleading Tags
Docket Alarm tags motions and pleadings by analyzing docket entry text. Each “pleading tag” has the fields:
- a procedural alpha type: either Motion, Response, Reply, Order, or Pleading;
- a substantive identifier: 200+ SALI standardized tags, download the Excel or JSON data libraries;
- the outcome (for orders): Granted, Denied, or Partial;
- timing information (e.g., time from motion to response to order).
Additional filters include judge, case type, jurisdiction, party, firm.
Note: Currently, party and firm filters are applied at the case level, not the filing level. Filtering to a firm won't show their motions, but motions in cases where they appeared.
