`Introduction
`A pressure reducing valve in the center valve limits
`the pressure available to the rotor clutch. Use the
`following procedure to test and adjust the setting of
`the pressure reducing valve. Perform this procedure
`if the rotor clutch does not engage.
`Required Tools
`
`Test Preparation
`1. Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.

`2. Move propel lever (1) into the maximum position
`opposite of the direction of travel. The farther the
`lever is moved, the faster the machine will stop.
`Release the lever.
`
`3. Verify that the parking brake is engaged by
`checking parking brake indicator (2). The parking
`brake should activate automatically when the
`machine is stopped. If the parking brake is not
`active, use propel lever (1) to stop the machine
`completely.

`A WARNING
`Diesel engine exhaust contains products of com-
`bustion which may cause personal injury.
`
`Always start and operate the engine in a well ven-
`tilated area, and, if in an enclosed area, vent the
`exhaust to the outside.
`
`A WARNING
`Personal injury can result from rotating and mov-
`ing parts. Stay clear of all rotating and moving
`parts.
`
`Never attempt adjustments while the machine is
`moving or the engine is running unless otherwise
`specified.
`
`The machine must be parked on a level surface
`and the engine stopped.
`
`Attach a "Do Not Operate" or similar warning tag
`to the start switch and controls before servicing,
`repairing, or making adjustments to the machine.
`
`A WARNING
`Personal injury or death can result from sudden
`machine movement.
`
`Sudden movement of the machine can cause in-
`jury to persons on or near the machine.
`
`To prevent injury or death, make sure that the
`area around the machine is clear of personnel
`and obstructions before operating the machine.
`
`A WARNING
`Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pres-
`sure and hot oil.
`
`Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic
`system after the engine has been stopped. Seri-
`ous injury can be caused if this pressure is not
`released before any service is done on the hy-
`draulic system.
`
`Make sure all of the attachments have been low-
`ered, and the oil is cool before removing any
`components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap on-
`ly when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap
`is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
`
`NOTICE
`Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are con-
`tained during performance of inspection, mainte-
`nance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine.
`Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable contain-
`ers before opening any compartment or disassem-
`bling any component containing fluids.
`
`Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar
`Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and sup-
`plies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpil-
`lar machines.
`
`Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations
`and mandates.

`Introduction
`A pressure reducing valve in the track tension valve
`limits the pressure available to the track tension
`cylinders. Use the following procedure to test and
`adjust the setting of the pressure reducing valve.
`Perform this procedure if the tracks are not tight.
