`
`Dear Commissioners,
`
`
`Please accept these comments in response to the Federal Energy Regulatory
`Commission’s (FERC) Notice of Intent to Prepare an Environmental Impact Statement
`(EIS) for the Proposed GTN Xpress Project, Docket No. CP22-2-000. I encourage
`FERC to strongly consider the no action alternative to GTN’s application (i.e., rejecting
`GTN’s shortsighted proposal). In addition, FERC must consider as part of the EIS
`process:
`
`• a thorough evaluation of the project’s impacts on Tribal Nations and Indigenous
`people;
`• environmental justice impacts;
`lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions;
`•
`•
`the local public health and environmental impacts of gas extraction;
`•
`the local public health and environmental impacts of expanding compressor
`stations;
`the public health and safety risks of increasing reliance on fracked gas; and
`the impact the expansion project will have on Oregon and Washington’s
`legislatively mandated effort to replace fossil fuel generated electricity with clean
`energy options.
`
`•
`•
`
`The future of communities disproportionately impacted by the gas industry and our
`climate depends on an environmental review that thoroughly considers the project’s
`wide-ranging impacts and recommends the “no action” alternative.

`

`The Arctic is dying because of fracked gas. No one knows how to save it, yet. The
`loss of Arctic snow and ice increases earth warming significantly. No one knows how
`to restore the ice and snow, yet. The UN declared CODE RED for Humanity in
`August of 2021 because our heating is out of control. This is very much associated
`with fracking and creating Fugitive Methane. The sattelites exist to see it all pretty
`clearly, now. Our best path to try to stay under 1.5 degrees C is to quit replacing the
`Fugitive Methane -- and since nothing else will accomplish that, we must stop using
`fracked gas. The one good thing about fracked gas is that it disappears from the sky
`with a half-life of about 11 years. Thus, stopping the use of fracked gas will allow
`Fugitive Methane to decrease much more rapidly than the CO2. So, it is a crime
`against humanity to allow growth of fracked gas instead of getting rid of it as quickly as
`we can. Please apply these thoughts in Oregon and everywhere.
`Fracked gas is bad for the PNW environment, wildlife, and communities. Fracked gas
`is damaging to our climate. Just say 'no.' Thank you.
`
`The climate and health effects of methane use are clear. We cannot tolerate a pipeline
`intended to increase residential gas usage when all our efforts should be directed at
`eliminating it.
`Stop destroying our environment for greed.
`We don't need more fracked gas. We need to move away from fossil fuels. Expanding
`this is a step backwards.

`THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST(my homecountry) DOES NOT NEED MORE FRACKED
`GAS!!! Please accept these comments in response to the Federal Energy Regulatory
`Commission’s (FERC) Notice of Intent to Prepare an Environmental Impact
`Statement (EIS) for the Proposed GTN Xpress Project, Docket No. CP22-2-000 Dear
`Commissioners, Weencourage FERC to strongly consider the no action alternative to
`GTN’s application (i.e., rejecting GTN’s shortsighted proposal). In addition, FERC
`must consider as part of the EIS process: a thorough evaluation of the project’s
`impacts on Tribal Nations and Indigenous people; environmental justice impacts;

`of gas extraction; the local public health and environmental impacts of expanding
`compressor stations; the public health and safety risks of increasing reliance on
`fracked gas; and the impact the expansion project will have on Oregon and
`Washington’s legislatively mandated effort
`
`Here in the great Pacific Northwest we are doing our best to reduce the greenhouse
`gases. Shipping in more of any gas is counter-productive. And to ship in fracked gas,
`which would not only cause more pollution in our area, but also causes much more
`methane pollution in the areas where the fracking takes place is unconscionable.
`
`I have read this petition and support it. The needs of the Pacific Northwest, the country,
`and the entire planet demand that extracting and transporting all fossil fuels, fracked
`gas included, stop ASAP.

`Dear Commissioners, Please accept these comments in response to the Federal

`Washington’s legislatively mandated effort to replace fossil fuel generated electricity
`with clean energy options.
`Do not accept GTN's proposal to pump more fracked gas to the Pacific Northwest. As
`a region we have repeatedly voted to decrease the energy sources that are most
`creating global warming. Oregon and Washington do not need more fracked gas to
`power our electric grid. Say no to GTN. Say yes to us an our children and our home.
`Sincerely Catherine
`Fossil Fuels are KILLING US! Air Pollution, Water Pollution, Climate Change... Get our
`Energy Policy into THIS century with Clean Renewables!
`We need to reduce and ultimately eliminate fossil fuel use. This is not the time to lock
`us into three decades more of fossil gas use. This is a bad investment and should not
`be allowed.
`the Pacific Northwest Doesn’t Need More Fracked Gas:
`
`While our society needs to gradually wean ourselves off of all fossil fuels, fracked gas is
`the simply the worst of the worst. The extraction process wrecks havoc on the
`environment, on-site and for many miles around. The damage done through this
`process remains long after the extraction process ends and those responsible gather
`their profits and move on. There is no good argument for extracting gas and oil by this
`method. Our fragile Northwest ecosystem cannot afford the long-term damage, and
`consumers (myself included) have access to sufficient fuel obtained by other methods.
`Frack Fracking !
`We need to move away from fossil fuels and into renewable energy as quickly as
`possible.

`
`We need to be doing the opposite of this. The earths being destroyed at the highest rate

`
`Another instance of investing in more fossil fuels when their is no refuting we should be

`mean more profit for Pacific Northwest but serves no greater need and should be
`denied.
`We don't need any more fracked gas which destroys the landscape.
`Start the transition to carbon-free energy now. No more fossil-fuel infrastructure.
`
`Lord, more fracting? Well, you know better but the influence of the utilities is great, right?
`We have cleaner, greener, and safer ways to go. Fracking and any types of fossil fuel
`mining are destructive to humans and wildlife, not to mention our waterways.
`
`Please advocate for healthier decisions now and in the future-we do not need any more

`Increasing the use of or transportation of fracked natural gas through the Pacific NW
`will accelerate the effects of climate change, doing harm to me, my family, future
`generations of people and the ecosystem we all care about. Don't do it.
`
`Protect the environment. Keep fracking out of Oregon!
`The PNW needs to move AWAY from fracked gas - and NOT import and use more.
`We should consider the current levels of 'natural' gas use to be the peak, the top of the
`curve, and everything we do from now on should be focused on lowering the volume of
`consumption/production. This will be accomplished through improved, less polluting
`technologies; substitution of fossil fuels with sustainable power sources; and all-electric
`requirements for ALL new construction. Easy? Nope. The alternative is the collapse of
`civilization.
`
`Indeed, we need to shift away from fossil fuels, quicker the better. We cu rrently heat
`two of our largest rooms with natural gas, and we will be installing electric, radiant heat

`impacts; lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions; the local public health and environmental
`impacts of gas extraction; the local public health and environmental impacts of
`expanding compressor stations; the public health and safety risks of increasing
`reliance on fracked gas; and the impact the expansion project will have on Oregon and
`Washington’s legislatively mandated effort to replace fossil fuel generated electricity
`with clean energy options. The future of communities disproportionately impacted by the
`gas industry and our climate depends on an environmental review that thoroughly
`considers the project’s wide-ranging impacts and recommends the “no action”
`alternative.
`
`Any step to add fossil fuel infrastructure to the Pacific Northwest is a step away from
`the clean, healthy, and vibrant world we are morally compelled to work towards.

`We are in a climate emergency because CO2 just passed 420 PPM in our atmosphere!
`Fracked gas or methane is extremely harmful to our environment and must be banned.
`New construction must be electric only with heat pumps, etc. We must also ban the
`fracked gas LNG project in Tacoma. It is vital that we get this done now!

`Fracking poisons our water and earth to produce a product that poisons our air. Fossil
`fuel consumption is suffocating the planet and all its species, including us. The only
`ethical option is to stop fracking.
`
`We must wean ourselves from our addiction to fossil fuels to reduce the effects of
`Earth's greatest crisis, global climate change and associated sea level rise and ocean
`acidification!
`
`You must consider the climate, public health, and environmental impacts of increasing
`the Pacific Northwest’s reliance on fracked gas. I oppose this expansion of its Gas
`Transmission Northwest (GTN) fracked gas pipeline. You are looking for short term
`solution for a long term problem. You need to think again.
`
`It is past time to stop fracking and reliance on fossil fuel.

`We don't need the proposed expanded natural gas pipeline. In 2021, Oregon signed
`into law legislation that requires the state’s electric grid to be 100% fossil-free by
`2040—the most aggressive timeline for a clean energy transition in the country.
`Communities are looking at changing building codes that will preclude natural gas
`hookups, furnaces and appliances. I personally am changing out my gas furnace for
`an electric heat pump next month, when I will also get solar panels on my roof. Do not
`authorize this expanded pipeline, which is not needed. We must transition to renewable
`energy. Thank you, Darlene Chirman
`
`Please!!! No more fracked gas!!
`
`I support the no action option for GTC’s application.

`think about our future on this earth. Thanks Sue Craig
`My state of Oregon has clearly demonstrated its commitment to completely move away
`from reliance on fossil fuels by 2040. My state of Oregon should not be forced into long
`term fracked gas contracts due to disingenuous actions and attempts to hide the true
`measure of the whole project to increase the amount of fracked gas being pumped
`through our state by seeking federal approval for smaller parts of a larger project.
`Please ensure that this company is held accountable by having them disclose the entire
`pipeline project so that the FERC not only understands what this disingenuous strategy
`is hiding but that an informed decision is made in the best interest of my beautiful state
`of Oregon. Thank you.
`Fracked gas projects in the Pacific Northwest are the wrong projects, in the wrong
`place, in the wrong time. Don't do them.

`The Pacific Northwest does not need more fracked gas. We are trying our best to
`reduce fossil fuel use and this pipeline will bring way more gas than anyone wants or
`needs.
`
`(FERC) Notice of Intent to Prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the
`Proposed GTN Xpress Project, Docket No. CP22-2-000. I encourage FERC to strongly
`consider the no action option. This fracking project will not benefit local citizens, in will
`be piped elsewhere and sold for higher prices which will in turn lead to higher local
`prices. Please consider all the local impacts this fracking woul have on local health,
`environmental justice, and health and justice to Tribal Nations. Thank you.
`
`Fracking is definitely not the way of the future for this planet.
`
`I ask all of you as specialists in energy of all types to deny any more permits for gas
`pipelines. I don’t think I have to tell you that it is past time to move away from gas as
`a source of energy. Some will say it is a bridge fuel until we have better renewables
`available. But as long as gas companies are allowed to keep expanding infrastructure
`we will keep delaying the inevitable and make our situation worse. Gas is not safe in the
`home our in our communities. The gases release all along the production and transport
`system poison our air. Spills of gas poison our waterways. There is no time to wait we
`need to protect our children’s future now.
`
`Humanity has done an excellent job of messing up the natural rhythm of Mother Nature!
`The entire world needs to switch to renewable energy. Fossil fuels and fracked gas are
`NOT part of that future. Please stop this greedy foolishness!
`
`The Pacific Northwest does not need any fracked gas - nor does anywhere else in the
`U.S. we need to move to truly CLEAN energy.
