`
`fie: Docket PF17-4-000 - Jordan Cove Energy Project and Pactfic Connector Qm '}’WH“ESH
`
`Commissioners and Project Review Staff:
`
`As a resident of the Coos Bay/North Bend area in southwest Oregon for nearly 30 years, and recently
`retired from the marine transportation industry, | have diligently followed the evolution of the Jordan
`Cove Energy Project and the Pacific Connector Gas Pipeline, and have closaly monitored the work of
`the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in reviewing the proposed projects. FERC's
`regulatory efforts have resulted in thorough and credible documentation of the safety and minimally
`negligible impacts this significantly beneéficlal project will have on southwest Oregon and the U.S.
`
`Jordan Cove/Pacific Connector represents the single largest private-sector energy infrastructure
`investment ever proposed for southwest Oregon, an investment that will generate more than $2.2
`billion in tax revenue for Oregon and four southwest region counties during the initial 20 years.
`COregon’s bay area will prosper from diversified well-paying jobs; more than 3,500 during the four years
`of construction, and 250 or more permanent jobs when the terminal and plpeline are in operation.
`Additionally there will be hundreds of new indirect jobs in both the public and private sectors, many In
`the high-wage maritime industry. However, there Is another substantial benefit for the region and
`state; significant new outbound tonnage through the underutiized Coos Bay harbor and channe! that
`will help ensure continued federal support for the Coos Bay navigation system.
`
`But it's not simply jobs that will provide positive benefits. lordan Cove has proven to be a positive
`corporate citizen supporting events and organizations through grant programs and sponsorships. This
`will continue with the Jordan Cove Community Enhancement Plan agreement in Coos County that will
`provide In excess of 5500 million in community service fees to benefit the region. This commitment
`will help a reglon struggling with shifting economics in the historical industrial sectors, Another critical
`Jordan Cove investment will be an LNG Firefighting School in partnership with Southwesten Oregon
`Community College. This school, second of its kind in the ULS., will help public safety professionals
`nationwide access the skills needed to meet the critical safety needs of an emerging energy sector.
`
`The Jordan Cove/Pacific Connector projects have proven their commercial viability through the
`contracts now in place, and Jordan Cove's long-term success is critically important to the bay area
`communities and the State of Oregon. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission must consider the
`significant public benefits that will accrue from the Jordan Cove/Pacific Connector projects.
`
`Sincerely,
`
