`
`
`Important Notes Regarding Upgrading to EOS 4.12.8
`
`
`Memory Requirements:
`
`
`
`
`
`
`
`
`
`EOS 4.11.0 and later requires more than 1 GB of DRAM and Flash.
`
`Some of the original 7100 series switches have only 1G of DRAM and Flash
`and therefore are not supported by EOS-4.12 releases.
`To determine if your 7100 series switch can support EOS 4.12, run the
`"show version" command on the switch to determine the total available
`DRAM on the system.
`
`switch#show version
`Arista DCS-7124
`Hardware version: ...
`Serial number: ...
`System MAC address: ...
`Software image version: ...
`Architecture: ...
`Internal build version: ...
`Internal build ID: ...
`Uptime: ...
`Total memory: ...
`Free memory: ...
`
`
`
`
`
`
`If the total memory reported by this command is not 2GB or more the
`switch cannot support EOS 4.12 and you are advised against upgrading to
`this release. The 7100 series platforms will continue to be supported
`with prior EOS software releases through 4.10.x.
`
`Regarding Remote Access:
`Please ensure you have at least one username and password combination
`configured before upgrading to EOS 4.12.8.
`
`Regarding FPGA Upgrade:
`Depending on your current EOS version, this EOS upgrade may require a
`FPGA upgrade as part of the image. Depending on several hardware
`factors, the complete upgrade process will take between 5-15 minutes.
`The switch will upgrade to the new image, and will then automatically
`reload a second time to perform the FPGA update.
`
`If the switch is interrupted or reloaded during this process, the switch
`will continue to attempt the FPGA upgrade until it is allowed to
`complete the process.
`
`
` Arista Networks Confidential
`
`CSI-ANI-00676292
`
`

`
`During the upgrade there will be periods where the switch will have all
`red LEDs and may appear unresponsive.
`
`If you have questions about the upgrade, or if the upgrade process is
`taking longer than 15 minutes, please contact your technical support
`representative.
`
`If you are upgrading from EOS-4.5.0 or EOS-4.5.1 please do not use TFTP
`to copy the image onto the switch, as a bug could cause the image to be
`truncated. This bug was fixed in EOS-4.5.2, and did not exist in
`versions before EOS-4.5.0.
`
`Regarding MLAG:
`If you are upgrading from a release prior to EOS-4.7.3, some
`configuration changes may be required as part of the introduction of
`hitless MLAG. Please refer to the Knowledge Base articles on MLAG
`configuration at http://www.aristanetworks.com/en/support/knowledgebase.
`
`Regarding Routing Configuration using cliribd:
`The 'write memory' command in cliribd is now deprecated. If a
`configuration file has been created via "cliribd", please perform the
`following steps before upgrading to 4.12.8:
`1. Archive the cliribd configuration using "bash echo 'show
`running-config' | cliribd > /mnt/flash/old-ribd-config.txt"
`2. Delete the cliribd persistent file using "delete
`file:/persist/sys/ribd.ami"
`3. Add any configuration commands that EOS does not support natively
`to /mnt/flash/rib-startup.

`Resolved Software Caveats in 4.12.8

`
`Repeatedly creating and deleting files in the root file system may cause
`the system to slowly run out of memory and eventually result in a kernel
`crash. (31609)
`
`In the BGP bestpath algorithm, comparison of external versus internal
`BGP paths is performed after the comparison of IGP metrics to the BGP
`next-hop of the paths. This can cause an iBGP path with a lower BGP
`next-hop cost (IGP metric) to be preferred over an eBGP path with a
`higher BGP next-hop cost (IGP metric). The comparison of external versus
`internal BGP paths should be performed before the comparsion of IGP
`metrics to the BGP next-hop of the paths. (37076)
`
`For a given prefix, if both BGP and Static paths are installed with the
`same distance value, then the active path selected in RIB is not
`deterministic. (57599)
`
`
`The PCS link information shown in the "show phy detail" command is
`incorrect on the 7050QX-32 ports 25-28. (68186)
`
`On the DCS-7150 series, if there are egress ACLs that are not programmed
`on the chip due to TCAM space, the FocalPointV2 agent may restart when
`the "show platform fm6000 tcam usage" command is executed (69106)
`
`MSDP Mesh Group members unnecessarily warn of a missing RPF Peer for
`distant MSDP RP (70471)
`
`On the DCS-7500E series, executing the "show platform forward" command
`on DCS-7500E linecard interfaces returns an error (71849)
`
`The 'show ip nat translation' command may display incorrect prefix
`information. This is issue is purely cosmetic and has no effect on the
`functioning of the NAT feature. (72153)
`
`In an IS-IS environment with many IS-IS adjacencies and greater than
`4,000 prefixes with each prefix having more than 32 way ECMP nexthops,
`rapid withdraawl and addition of many routes may cause some of the IS-IS
`adjacencies to flap on the designated router (DIS) with default hold
`interval. The system stabilizes once the route churn stops. (72685)

`
`

`
`
`
`On the 7500E-SUP series, a reboot of the system may cause a supervisor
`to not power back on, requiring power cycling or reinsertion of the
`supervisor module (74759)
`
`On the DCS-7150 series, PTP transmits but does not receive packets on
`STP blocked ports. This may lead to incorrect time synchronization if
`there is a PTP master port that is a STP blocked port. (75210)
`
`On DCS-7500E series with DCS-7500E fabric modules, removing a linecard
`while there is ingress traffic on ports on that linecard destined for a
`port on another linecard may result in that port forwarding traffic at a
`rate below its linerate capability. This condition will persist until
`the removed linecard is reinserted and fully initialized. (75252)
`
`On the DCS-7500E series, the system will not attempt to power back on
`DCS-7500E-36Q-LC or DCS-7500E-12CM-LC linecards after an unexpected
`power failure. The linecard will remain powered off, and the associated
`SandFap agent will restart repeatedly. The workaround is to power off and
`back on the linecard using the "no power enable module linecardN" and
`"power enable module linecardN". (76612)
`
`Under a heavy load of SNMP requests, the Snmp agent may restart (77038)
`
`A race condition in the kernel may trigger a kernel panic containing
`lines similar to the following:
`
`kernel BUG at
`/bld/EosKernel/Artools-rpmbuild/linux-2.6.38/net/core/dev.c:5581
`...
`RIP: 0010:[<ffffffff812ce1ea>] [<ffffffff812ce1ea>]
`netdev_run_todo+0x1ce/0x263
`
`While this race condition could occur under any conditions it is
`somewhat more likely to occur when agents are restarted. (77112)

`The snmpd process may restart while accessing IP-MIB objects. The SNMP
`service will be unavailable while it is restarting but will resume
`normal operation once the restart is complete. (77610)
`
`When a switch is low on free memory and files are being created or
`modified on the root filesystem, the system may enter a state of extreme
`memory shortage. This can result in a reload due to kernel crash or

`
`On the DCS-7150S-64 switch in an MLAG setup, frames ingressing on port
`Et52/4 could be treated as ingressing on the peerlink port-channel and
`therefore not flooded to the MLAG ports of the switch. This issue can be
`worked around by making port Et52/4 part of the peerlink port-channel.

`
`
`On the DCS-7150 series, VXLAN traffic being sent or received by the CPU
`in the presence of frames with a source MAC address that looks like
`xx:xx:ff:ff:xx:xx being sent to the CPU can cause the forwarding ASIC's
`DMA engine to hang. This will cause the DMA watchdog to restart the
`FocalPointV2 agent. (78382)
`
`On the DCS-7500 series or DCS-7048 series configured as an MLAG pair, a
`link flap on one of the the peer link members on one of the MLAG peers
`may cause some MAC table entries learned on MLAGs to be removed from the
`MAC table on one of the peers. This may lead to partial of connectivity
`to those MAC addresses. The workaround is to clear these entries on the
`MLAG peer where they are still present so that the entries can be
`relearned and synchronized correctly. (78569)
`
`On the DCS-7150 series, a single-event-upset (SEU) in the statistics or
`profiler memory may cause the forwarding agent to restart (78673)
`
`On the DCS-7500E series, a restart of the SandMcast agent may lead to
`misforwarding or dropping multicast traffic.(78676)
`
`SSHD may briefly operate without hardware-based entropy during system
`restart, even if hardware entropy is configured. Hardware entropy is
`applied as soon as the startup configuration is processed. (78714)
`
`On the DCS-7150 series, NAT does not update the transport checksum if
`PTP is enabled on the port where the packet ingressed (78826)
`
`On the DCS-7150 series, the Mirroring agent will restart if mirroring to
`CPU is configured along with tap/tool port configurations (79092)
