`
`LG Electronics Mobilecomrn U.S.A., Inc. Past and Present Infringement of Zipit
`Wireless, Inc’s U.S. Patent Nos. 7,292,870 and 7,894,837
`
`Dear Mr. Hwang:
`
`As evidenced by the enclosed claim charts, Zipit Wireless, Inc. believes that LG Electronics
`Mobilecomm U.S.A., Inc. has and continues to infringe Zipit”s U.S. Patent Nos. 7,292,870 and 7,894,837
`in violation of 35 U.S.C. §271 (a), (b), and (c). Zipit believes that LGE”s instant messaging devices
`(smartphones) that generate an emoticon (@, ®) in a Wi—Fi ready instant message have and continue
`to infringe Zipit’s ”870 and ”837 U.S. Patents. Courtesy copies of Zipit”s ”870 and ”837 U.S. Patents are
`attached (Exhibits “A” and “H,” respectively) along with exemplary claim charts that demonstrate LGE”s
`infringement (Exhibits “0” and “P,” respectively).
`
`In October 2013, Zipit filed a patent infringement lawsuit against BlackBerry Limited and
`BlackBerry Corporation in Greenville, South Carolina.
`In September 2014, BlackBerry filed IPR
`Petitions to invalidate Zipit”s ”870 and ”837 Patents. On March 29, 2016, however, the U.S. PTAB issued
`Final Decisions confirming the validity of 100% ofthe claims in Zipit”s ”870 and ”837 Patents. Following
`the Final Decisions, the BlackBerry lawsuit settled on confidential terms.
`
`In April 2017, Zipit filed a second patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung Electronics Co.,
`Ltd., Samsung Electronics America, Inc., and Samsung Telecommunications America, LLC in Greenville,
`South Carolina. Zipit is pleased to report that Samsung is now a licensee onipit”s Patents, and as a result,
`the Zipit-Samsung lawsuit settled.
`
`Please let me know when you are available to discuss this matter.
