`Better messages; a Snoopy holiday

`Here's a great splurge item that you can add to your wishlist. The Zipit Wireless
`Messenger 2 (Z2) lets you IM your friends without being chained to the family computer.
`At $149.99, it's the same price as a new iPod, and this device is just as portable. Access
`any open WiFi network to log onto your AOL/AIM, Yahoo or MSN IM accounts and chat
`away. You can have multiple, simultaneous conversations, play music or view photos on
`its full-color display (add a miniSD card to up your memory). You can IM in the dark with a
`backlit keyboard and make the Zipit your own with color skins and faceplates. Worried
`about security? The Zipit 2 has enhanced safety and security features, plus protection
`against spam, spyware and viruses.
`Your parents will love this item as much as you, since it will free up the computer so they
`can use it and don't have to pay extra fees, like those for cell-based text messages.
`Another bonus on their end: It also has a Web-accessed "parental portal" that enables
`them to manage your time and date usage on the device. Not so great for you, but it can
`force you to finish your homework - and that, in the long run, is a good thing.

`Doghouse design
`It's that time of year again - the time of year when you can't escape Christmas tunes on
`the radio and you're practically blinded by all the stores' holiday cheer when all you're
`trying to do is buy a sweater. But we digress. On the plus side, if you can limit your
`exposure to such things, it's nice to catch up with annual traditions, like putting together a
`gingerbread house, or watching "Rudolph" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas." (Who
`doesn't love Snoopy?)
`This year, you can get a kit to make a gingerbread version of Snoopy's doghouse. If you
`remember, in the holiday special, Snoopy wins first place for the holiday decorations on
`his house. The kit includes gingerbread (it's pre-cut), a half pound of assorted candy,
`vanilla icing mix, a decorator bag (for the icing), a set-up tray and a Snoopy decoration. Of
`course, the kit does look like a typical doghouse, so if you want to put your own dog's
`name on the finished product, Snoopy probably wouldn't mind. Just don't feed it to the pup
`- all that candy can't be good for him!
