`1. Title of the Invention
`Selective Call Receiver with Display Function
`2. Scope of Patent Claims
`(1) A selective call receiver with a display function, comprising:
`a clock function,
`a means for recording data showing, when a message is received, an incoming message, the current time
`returned by the aforementioned clock function, and whether the day the message is received is today,
`a means for determining whether the date has been updated by the aforementioned clock function, and when
`the date has been updated, a means for writing in the aforementioned storage means the fact that the day the message
`was received is not today, and
`a means for displaying the aforementioned incoming message stored by the aforementioned storage means, the
`time, and whether the day the message was received is today.
`(2) The selective call receiver with a display function according to claim (1), wherein the data showing
`whether the aforementioned received date is today comprises the number of days elapsed from the received day;
`when the date has been updated, the number of days elapsed since the message was received and stored in the
`aforementioned storage means is displayed along with the incoming message and the time.
`(3) The selective call receiver with a display function according to claim (2), wherein the message is deleted
`from the aforementioned storage means when the number of elapsed days of the aforementioned message exceeds a
`preset number of elapsed days.
`3. Detailed Description of the Invention
`Field of the Invention
`This invention relates to a selective call receiver with a display function, wherein the selective call receiver
`with a display function displays the changes over time.
`Prior Art
`A block diagram of a conventional selective call receiver with a display function is shown in FIG. 2. Number 1
`shows an antenna for receiving a selective call signal, and number 2 shows a receiver. The received selective call
`signal is input into a decoder 3, decoded by number ID, and compared to a selective calling number ID preliminarily
`stored in an ID-ROM (read-only memory) 4 in this decoder 3.
`And when both numbers match, a sounding body 6 is activated via a sound generator circuit 5 to generate a
`sound to notify a user that he/she has an incoming call.
`On the other hand, a display message signal sent after a selective call signal is input into the decoder 3, after
`being decoded in this decoder 3, the signal is transmitted to a message editing circuit 8 and converted to message
`data in the message editing circuit 8. And this message data is stored in a message memory circuit 9. This message

`data is then displayed on a display unit 11, which is a display means, via a display drive circuit 10 according to the
`user’s need.
`Furthermore, the time when the selective call signal performed an incoming call is recognized by the clock 7
`with which the time is matched by a time adjustment circuit 12, and this time is made to correspond with the
`message and stored in the message memory circuit 9. And this incoming call time is displayed on the display unit 11
`via the display drive circuit 10 depending on the user’s need.
`Thus, it is possible for a user to know the time when each message was received also in the case of the
`conventional example described above.
`The Problem the Invention is to Solve
`However, in the conventional example, for example, when a message is read after several incoming calls are
`received over several days, [the message] is displayed in a state where it is impossible for a user to know which date
`the incoming call time belongs to when [the times are] displayed simultaneously; the disarrayed display of time is
`confusing to a user, which is problematic.
`That is, this is because, in the conventional example, the information on the incoming call time is effective
`only for that day and such information not only becomes completely meaningless the next day but also becomes a
`nuisance.
`In view of the conventional problem described above, the objective of the present invention is to provide a
`selective call receiver with a display function useful when displaying an incoming message on a day after the
`message was received.
`Means for Solving the Problem
`To achieve the objective described above, the present invention is configured as follows: a time function is
`provided to determine whether the date has been updated; when the date has been updated, the fact that the day the
`message was received is not today is memorized and displayed along with the incoming message and the receipt
`time.
`The present invention is devised so as to display the number of elapsed days of a message along with an
`incoming message and the time.
`Operation of the Invention
`By the configuration of the present invention described above, a useful selective call receiver with a display
`function can be realized, wherein it is possible for a user to know that the day the message was received is not today,
`when an incoming message is displayed on days after the message was received.
`Working example
`One working example according to the present invention will be described below with reference to FIG. 1. In
`FIG. 1, number 1 shows an antenna for receiving a selective call signal, and number 2 shows a receiver. The
`receiver 2 is connected to a decoder 3, and the decoder 3 is connected to a ID-RO4 [sic, ID-ROM 4] and the sound
`generator circuit 5, respectively, as well as to the clock 7 for counting 24 hours and the message editing circuit 8,
`respectively. The sounding body 6 is connected to the sound generator circuit 5 so as to generate a sound, and a
`clock adjustment circuit 12 and a date change determination circuit 13 are connected to the clock 7, allowing the
`clock 7 to determine midnight.
`The decoder 3 is sequentially connected to the message editing circuit 8, the display drive circuit 101, and the
`display unit 11a so as to allow a display of an incoming message, and this message data along with the receipt time
`and the number of days elapsed are stored in a memory circuit 9a that stores messages/times/number of days.
`Next, the operation [of the invention] will be described based on the above configuration.
`A selective call signal is received by the antenna 1, input into the decoder 3 via the receiver 2, and compared
`with a selective call number ID preliminarily stored in the ID-ROM 4 in this decoder 3. And when both numbers
`match, the sounding body 6 is activated via the sound generator circuit 5 to generate a sound to notify a user that
`he/she has an incoming call.
`On the other hand, the display message signal sent after a selective call signal is input into the decoder 3, is
`transmitted to the message editing circuit 8 after being decoded by this decoder 3, and is converted to message data
`in this message editing circuit 8. And the message data along with the current time returned by the clock 7 and the
`data of the number of days "0" are stored in the memory circuit 9a for storing message times/number of days. And
`this message data is displayed on the display unit 11, which is a display means, via the display drive circuit 10
`depending on the user’s need.
`On the other hand, the clock 7 performs time adjustment by a time adjustment circuit 12 after the power is
`turned on. This clock 7 is a 24-hour type; when the date change determination circuit 13 determines that the time is
`0:00 a.m., the data on the number of days stored in the memory circuit 9a is incremented by 1. That is, the message
`data stored in the memory circuit 9a is not deleted, but when many days have passed, the number of days is

`memorized for every message data and displayed on the display unit 11 via the display drive circuit 10 depending on
`the user’s need.
`The display of the number of elapsed days of this incoming message does not need to be a complicated one; a
`simple mark may be used as long as identification is possible.
`Therefore, according to the above-mentioned working example, the number of days elapsed is displayed on the
`display unit 11a together with an incoming message when the incoming message is read, so it is possible to prevent
`a user from being confused even in the case of multiple incoming messages received over several days, allowing a
`user to easily manage the incoming messages.
`Incorporating an erase circuit that defines the number of memory retention days in advance in ID-ROM 4 can
`prevent the memory circuit 9a for storing messages/time/number of days from becoming overflowing unnecessarily
`and allows an efficient management of the incoming messages.
`
`Effect of the Invention
`As has been described above, in the present invention, a determination is made whether the date has been
`updated by a clock function; when the date had been updated, the fact that the day the message was received is not
`today is stored and displayed along with the incoming message and the receipt time; therefore, when an incoming
`message is displayed on days after the day the message is received, a user can know that the day the message was
`received is not today, so it is possible to realize a useful selective call receiver with a display function.
