`About the Author
`
`Alastair Dallas is a founding employee of Collabra Software, Inc., and one of
`the principal architects of Collabra Share. During his 17-year involvement
`with microcomputers, which began with an Altair 8800 kit, he has partici-
`pated in the design and implementation of several popular productivity
`applications. These include dBASE III, dBASE III Plus and dBASE IV for
`Ashton-Tate (now Borland), where he co-wrote The dBASE IV Programming
`Language, and worked on Lotus Developments popular cr.Mail software.
`His experience with both messaging and databases led directly to his work
`on Collabra Share, which uses database techniques to extend messaging into
`the new realm of "groupware." Alastair lives in Los Gatos, California, with
`his wife Peggy and their children Jonathan, Kelley, and Ann Marie.

`Acknowled ements
`g
`
`Special Edition Using Collabra Share 2 is the brainchild of Bryan Gambrel and
`Que, and it would not have been possible without the dedicated professionals
`listed on the credits page. I'd like to particularly mention what a pleasure it "
`was to work with Fred Slone, Nancy D. Price, and Caroline Roop.
`I'm grateful to Greg Potter, author and finisher of Collabra's excellent docu-
`mentation, for being this book's Technical Editor. I asked him to coauthor,
`but instead he taught me principles of presenting information that I'll use
`again and again. And thanks to Dorothea Dallas, as usual, for being the best
`editor a son ever had. (I take responsibility for any errors that remain, how-
`ever, and I would appreciate hearing about them in care of Que or by e-mail
`at magician02@aol.com.)
`This book would not exist without the hard work and dedication of my fel-
`low Collabra collaborators: Eric Alexander, Tina Babbi, Monique Barbanson,
`Frederic W. Barling, Kathy Beal, David Bienvenu, Jim Black, Spencer Blish,
`Nancy Boling, John Brand, Laurel Carlson, Robert Case, Betty Chan, Lisa
`Chiang, David Christie, Amy Cohn, Steve Cruser~berry, Anne Denhard, Deb
`Dougherty, Elyssa Edwards, John Friend, Eric Hahn, MeiWen Hwang, David
`Jones, Randy Kennedy, David Kinser, Ian Knight, Japheth Ko, Bob Lisbonne,
`Kathleen McKee, Dave Mease, Cindy Medjoubi, Debby Meredith, Peter Mock,
`Robert Norling, Phil Peterson, Ben Polk, Marti Pozzi, Steve Richard, Karen
`Richardson, Nora Ryan, Danny Shader, Jane Smith, Johan G. E. Strandberg,
`Nancy Sullivan, Tony Tyson, Michelle Watkins, Doreen Weiss, Mike Weston,
`Maile Whitmire, and Jeff Winner. Thanks also to all the beta testers, usability
`testers, focus groups, journalists, luminaries, and customers whose sugges-
`tions and support helped make Collabra Share a very satisfying project with
`which to have been associated.
