`
`ATLANTA (October 15, 2001) – Sto Corp, the innovative world leader in cladding, coating and restoration
`systems, has introduced its new Sto Guard liquid-applied waterproof coating and joint filler, a more effective and
`economical alternative to traditional EIFS drainage systems and as a simple barrier protection for use with any
`cladding or coating.
`
`The Sto Guard solution includes: Sto Gold Fill, a trowel grade flexible joint treatment used to protect sheathing
`joints and rough openings; and Sto Gold Coat, a roller-applied waterproofing coating to protect sheathing
`material during and after construction.
`
`Sto Guard provides a seamless moisture and air barrier for protection far beyond conventional housewrap paper
`or other materials and can be used with most claddings including EIFS, vinyl, wood and brick. Sto Gold Coat and
`Sto Gold Fill can provide simple barrier protection or can be used as an EIFS drainage solution. Sto Guard, when
`completed with a Sto EIFS that incorporates vertical adhesive ribbons and weeping starter track, provides a
`secondary moisture barrier that serves as a waterproof drainage plane for any incidental water that might enter
`the wall.
`
`"Sto believes the best defense against moisture intrusion is to keep water outside the building," said Macon Lowe,
`Sto Corp. president and chief executive officer. "We believe this new solution will be an important tool to enable
`architects, builders and owners to prevent moisture intrusion regardless of their choice of exterior cladding."
`
`"Sto Guard demonstrates Sto's continuing innovation and commitment to providing a full range of building
`solutions offering superior moisture protection and ease of installation," said Lowe. "Sto Guard with a Sto EIF
`system is a cost-effective alternative to a traditional EIFS drainage system."
`
`Sto Gold Coat can easily be applied by roller to cementitious and non-cementitious sheathing including plywood,
`gypsum and glass-fiber-faced sheathing boards. Because Sto Gold Coat is roller applied, builders and contractors
`enjoy significantly reduced application costs over trowel application products. Sto Gold Fill is a safe, non-toxic
`material designed to bridge normal movement in wood sheathing. It is trowel-applied to cover joints and gaps
`between sheathing and around windows, ensuring continuous protection from air and moisture intrusion.
`
`A continuous air barrier is essential for a well constructed home. Research conducted by the Pennsylvania
`Housing Research Center concluded that housewraps under current practice frequently do little or nothing to
`improve the overall air tightness of a wall system. Sto Guard provides a quality, cost-effective alternative to
`conventional housewraps such as building paper.
`
`The distinctive golden color of the Sto products makes it easy for builders and applicators to tell at a glance
`where Sto Gold Coat and Sto Gold Fill have been applied to ensure full coverage and a continuous air barrier
`before exterior cladding is installed. For more information, call toll free (800) 221-2397 or (404) 346-0755.
