`
`DETROIT--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Cellular telephone users who have been caught in the confusing tangle of
`cellular systems across the country will find a way out of the web with ``The North American Official Cellular
`User's Guide,'' a new sourcebook that gives complete information on how to use cellular phones in every state
`and city in the United States and Canada.
`
`The guide tells what telephone companies often don't: that it can be tricky to get a cellular telephone to work
`easily and economically in the more than 350 different systems across North America. For instance, there are at
`least 17 different dialing patterns in use nationwide.
`
`Written by a group of experienced cellular consultants, the guide features detailed information on how to avoid
`excessive charges for some of the more convenient, but potentially expensive, cellular features. ``Follow-me
`roaming ,'' for example, which allows users to receive calls when away from their home cities, can inflate bills as
`much as 45 percent if not used correctly.
`
`The book is organized in an easy-to-read format that includes color-highlighted cellular coverage maps, as well
`as rates and roamer information on all U.S. and Canadian systems. Information is alphabetized by state and by
`cities within states.
`
`The guide wastes little time getting to the point, starting out with a mere 18 pages of text packed with useful
`information for the first-time mobile phone user as well as the veteran owner, including most-frequently asked
`cellular questions, use of U.S. equipment in foreign countries and a complete cellular glossary.
`
`On the technical side, the book highlights critical details of installation sometimes missed by technicians, describes
`the different types of cellular equipment and has a section on troubleshooting that can save hundreds of dollars in
`repairs.
`
`Bob Hutchinson, president of the National Association of Cellular Agents, has rated the guidebook ``the best
`source of cellular information available.''
`
`Executives, sales and service professionals and truckers, as well as managers planning cellular systems for their
`companies, are among those who will find the guide a useful addition to their suitcases. The compact (4 by 8
`inches) 208-page book is designed to fit in glove compartment or suit jacket pocket.
