`"We, THE AVON INDIA RUBBER COMPANY
`LIMITED,
`of Melksham, Wiltshire,
`England, a Company incorporated under
`the Laws of Great Britain and Northern
`5 Ireland, and WILLIAM Jour HARRIS, of
`Waverley, Spa Road, Melksham, Wilt-
`shire, England,
`a: /British Subject,
`do
`hereby declare the nature of this inven-
`tion to !be as follows :—
`This invention relates to air cushions or
`the like such as for example air mattresses
`and its object is to provide improvements
`therein.
`7
`In accordance with this invention the
`15 air cushion or the like is divided into a
`plurality of compartments by individual
`partitions which are, some or all of them,
`provided with means to allow of the slow
`- passage of air through the partition. The
`20 means may comprise small holes in the
`fabric of the partition or insertions of a
`material permeable to air, as for example,
`rubber, canvas or linen.
`
`In one way of carrying out this inven-
`tion as applied for example to a rubber
`cushion, the outer wall of the cushion is
`made
`of
`inextendable
`or
`extendable
`material,
`for example, canvas or linen,
`lined rubber or solid rubber.
`Theinterior of the cushion is divided
`into compartments by cross members of
`canvas or linen suitably coated to render
`it iinperviousgto air.
`The
`canvas, or
`linen,
`in some cases is provided with
`numerous small holes to allow the passage
`of air there through.
`In other cases it is
`provided with insertions of canvas or linen
`, or rubber permeable to air.
`The partitions may be attached to the
`cover by webs comprising several layers of
`material.
