`Improvements in or relating to Pneumatic Seats, Cushions, Upholstery
`o and the like.
`
`We, DAVID MOSELEY & SONS, LIMITED,
`of Chapel Field Works, Ardwick, Man-
`chester, a British company, and CHARLES
`DOSSUNET, of 51-55, Rue de Vincennes,
`Montreuil, Provence de Seine, France, a
`French citizen, do hereby declare the
`nature of this
`invention to be as fol-
`lows :—-
`reference to pneu-
`This invention has
`matic seats, cushions. upholstery and the
`like, of the kind comprising an inflatable
`air container divided into a plurality of
`inter-communicating
`compartments
`by
`means of reeds "or partitions, and more
`particularly to such pneumatic seats,
`cushions,
`upholstery or
`the
`like
`as
`described in specification No. 340,506
`in Which the air containers and the reeds
`or partitions are made of rubber and the
`reeds or partitions are less extensible than
`the walls of the air containers.
`The object of the presentinvention is
`to provide an improved pneumatic seat,
`cushion, upholstery or the like of the kind
`referred to that will have a maximum
`freedom from rolling and aflord greater
`stability and give a better
`sense of
`security than have hitherto been obtained.
`According to the invention, the reeds
`or partitions of the air containers, of a
`pneumatic seat. cushion, upholstery or the
`like of the kind referred to are so shaped
`and / or arranged that the air container is
`of greater height or thickness at the sides
`than at the middle or between the sides
`and the outer covering or casing in which '
`the air container is fitted is correspond-
`ingly shaped so that the seating or like
`surface is concaved transversely and the
`sides fit snugly up against
`the -user or
`of
`occupier.
`In the
`case
`seats
`or
`cushions. the reeds or partitions may, if ,
`desired,‘ be so arranged that the air con-
`tainer is of greater height or thickness-
`at the front and back .as well’ as -at the
`sides _than in the middle and the outer,
`covering or casing be correspondingly”
`[Price 1/-]
`
`shaped so that the seating surface has
`formed in it a nest-like concavity.
`In applying the invention to e._g., the
`air container of a cushion in_wh1ch ‘the
`reeds or partitions run from side to_s_ide,
`the upper edges of the reeds or partltlons
`are shaped so that
`they are of gradu-
`ally reducing height from each side_to.tlie
`middle and the top surface of the air con-
`tainer
`is
`concaved transversely. _ The
`outer casing in which the air container is
`fitted is correspondingly shaped so that
`When the air container
`is inflated,
`the
`seating surface of
`the cushion is trans-
`versely concaved.
`In an air container in
`which the reeds or partitions run from
`front to back, the reedsor partitions are
`made successively of less height from the
`outermost to the innermost, the outer cas-
`ing being, as before, shaped so that the
`seating surface of the cushion is concaved‘
`transversely when the air container is in-
`‘
`flated.
`In cases Where the air containers are
`provided with both
`reeds or partitions
`running from side to side and from front"
`to back, the two sets of reeds may be made-
`as described so that the seating surface is
`formed With a nest-like concavity.
`It is found that the higher edges of the
`seat
`or
`cushion resulting from the
`arrangements of
`reeds or partitions de-
`scribed fit snugly up against the user and
`not only reduce rolling to a minimum and
`aiford great stability; but also give a
`greater sense of security. Seats, cushions
`or "the like in accordance with the inven-
`
`tion are, therefore, especially applicable
`for use on aircraft.
