`
`To all whom it may concern:
`Be it known that I JOSEPH F. HALL, of
`Bangor in the county of Penobscot and
`State of Maine, have invented a neW and
`Improved Apparatus for Raising and Low —
`eiing and Otheiwise Controlling the Move-
`ment of Window-Curtains; andbl do heieby
`declare that the followingis a full and ex-
`act description of the same, leference being
`had to the accompanying drawing, and refer- 1
`ences thereon, which constitute a part of the
`description.
`The nature of the invention consists in the
`combination of the biacket and spring in
`one piece of mechanism. The bracket while
`sustaining one end of the curtain roller at
`the same time acts as a spring pressing the
`roller against the bracket at
`the opposite
`end of the roller thus creating a friction 1
`bearing whereby the curtain is sustained in
`any desired position.
`In the accompanying drawings Figure l
`is a front View of a window casing with the 1
`eur,tain cord, tassel and fixturesyeomplete
`Fig. 2 is a perspective end View of the
`sprino bracket. Fig. 3is the pulley bracket.
`The same letters 1efcr to the same parts
`in all of the figures
`That othersbskilled in the art to make and
`use my invention, may make and use. the
`same, it is described and used as follows.
`Prepare a. wooden roller of any required
`length insert and fasten into one end the
`pulley D on the reverse end affix the cap 0
`(the same being made with a cavity 01 socket
`fitting tightlyb 011
`the end of the roller.)
`The pulley and cap are gene1ally made of
`hardei wood than the body of the rollei and
`sometimes of metal. The curtain is attached
`to the roller in the usual way. The frame
`(A A, Fig. 1 , shows the Window casing to
`Which the brackets (E F) are serbewed by
`screws (9) Itis the use and adaptation of
`this spring bracket E that constitutes the
`prominent5feature of the invention claimed
`It is the bracket performing the double .

`functions of spring and bracket as a bracket
`attaching the roller to the wihdow casing
`and as a spring sustaining the curtain at any
`point of elevation desired. Having made
`the brackets on each side of the window fast
`in their places put the pintle of cap 0 into
`the socket (s) of bracket E, then press the
`bracket outward far enough to enter the
`pintle of the pulley D1n the socket (w ) of
`bracket F against which it is pressed by
`spring bracket E and the curtain Is in condi—
`tion to be worked. The curtain is drawn
`down by cord and tassel 0 and raised by
`cord and tassel n.

`
`is made of
`The bracket E. Figs. 1, 2,
`81311110 wire. Take a piece of requisite length
`and bend it 211ound a suitable sized pin two
`01 three times, thus forming the socket (s),
`then at a sufficient distance from the socket
`to give the desiled height to the b1aeket
`. bend each of the two parts of the wire sex—
`eral times around a small a1“,b01 thus form-
`ing a coil spring. The ends are then tuined
`in so as to form eyes for the screws by
`which the bracketis fastened to the window
`casing. An inclination forward or inward
`is given to the projecting part of the biacket
`(E) which gives a pressuie upon the 1“olle1
`when that part is brought to a position at
`(or nearly at) right angles to the basis of
`the bracket.
`The bracket F, Fig. 5, is usually made of
`cast metal having a projecting arm (21)
`which reaches across the front of the pulley
`D, holding the cord a within the groove in
`the pulley.
`IIaVmg fully described the natuie of my
`i111ention what I claim as my invention and
`desire to seeme by Letteis Patentis—
`The spring bracket. E, substantiallv as de-
`scribed for the purposes set fo1th.
