`
`To all whom it may concern:
`Be it known that I, PETER F. BOLAND, a
`citizen of the United States of America,
`residing at New York'city, in the bounty
`5 of New York and State of New York, have
`invented new and useful Improvements in
`lVindow-Shade BraCkets, of whiCh 'thei'fol-
`lowing isfla specification.
`,
`This invention relates to window shade
`10 brackets and has for its primary object the
`provision of a device of
`this character
`which will be simple of construction, strong,
`durable and ornamental and one which is
`constructed and designed whereby it may
`be expeditiously applied to the frame with-
`out marring or injuring the same in any
`particular manner. The latter capacity of
`function is due to the fact that the spherical
`support of the bracket is provided with a
`20 trunnion-receiving slot in its rounded side,
`which slot extends from a peripheral point
`of the support to a point at the opposite
`side of the support center, with reference to
`said peripheral point, and a central fasten—
`ing pin extends from the flat, rear face
`of the support in such position that a driv-
`ing tool applied through the slot will drive
`the pin.
`shade
`in the
`invention consists
`The
`bracket hereinafter described and definitely
`claimed.
`In the accompanying drawings, has been
`illustrated, a single and preferred form of
`the invention, it being, however, understood
`that no limitations are necessarily made to
`the precise structural details therein ex—
`hibited, but that changes, alterations and
`modifications within the scope of the claim
`may be resorted to when desired.
`Figure 1 is a section through the bracket
`showing the same applied.
`Fig. 2 is a perspective View of two mat—
`ing brackets for the opposite ends of
`a.
`shade roll.
`Fig. ‘3 is a section taken on line 3—3 of
`Fig. 1.
`Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a slightly
`modified form of the invention.
`Fig. 5 is a section through the bracket
`50 illustrating a. further modified form thereof;
`In carrying the invention into practice
`use is made of a support 10 of semi-spheri-
`cal formation,
`the same being hollow as
`shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive of the draw-
`I55 ings and provided at its center with a trun-
`nion receiving passage or slot 11 to fit

`the corresponding end of the shade roller
`as will be understood. The slot 11 extends
`from a; peripheral point of the spherical
`suppert to a point at the opposite side of
`the support center with reference to said
`peripheral point, and said slot is provided
`__’with a back Wall parallel to the rear face
`of'the support. When of hollow forma-
`tion/the “support is provided with a flat
`disk or crown 12 from the center of Which
`an integral
`fastening 13
`extends. This
`disk is adapted to come in flat contact with
`the adjacent face of the window frame as
`shown in Fig. 1 so that the support will be
`suspended in the desired rigid manner.
`The fastening 13 may lbe of any suitable
`well known design but is preferably of an—
`gular formation in transverse section and
`pointed toward its free end whereby it may
`be driven into the frame in an expeditious
`manner.
`It is arranged in a horizontal line
`with the slot or passage 11 in the semi-
`spherical support 10.
`In this manner a suit—
`able driving tool, not shown, may be inserted
`through said slot or passage and placed
`against the crown 12 in line with the longi-
`tudinal axis of the fastening and then, by
`tapping said tool,
`the fastening can be
`quickly and accurately driven into position
`in the frame. The described arrangement
`of the slot 11 manifestly permits of this be-
`ing easily accomplished.
`The angular formation of the fastening
`will, in a measure, hold the bracket against
`rotation when applied, but in some cases
`it may be desirable to employ a further
`means of producing this effect. Therefore,
`the crown is preferably provided with a
`periphery arranged notch 14, through which
`a. brad 15 may be passed and driven into the
`window frame, see Fig. 1.
`In the form of the invention shown in
`Fig. 4,
`the disk or crown 12 is provided
`with a plurality of radial ribs 15’ adapted
`to slightly penetrate the adjacent face of
`the window frame to hold the bracket
`against casual rotation.
`I do not desire to limit myself to the
`precise structural details herein illustrated,
`as many obvious departures may be made
`therein. For instance, instead of construct—
`ing the support of hollow formation, it may
`be solid, as shown in Fig. 5. The device
`may be formed of metal, any suitable com-
`position of matter, hard rubber or in fact
`any well known material which may be

`
`'What is claimed as new is:
`A shade bracket comprising a semi-
`spherical support having a flat rear face
`for arrangement against a Window frame
`and also having a trunnion-receiving slot
`in its rounded side; said slot extending from
`a peripheral point of the support to a point
`at the -opp0site¥ side of the support center,
`With reference to said peripheral point7 and
`provided with a back wall parallelto said
`rear "face, and a central fastening pin ex-
`tending from the‘flat rear face of the sup-
`port in‘sueh position that a driving tool
`applied through the slot will drive the pin.
`In testimony whereof I. affix my signature.

`ound most desirable for the purpose. From
`the arrangement set forth in the foregoing,
`it Will be manifest that a shade bracket
`of an extremely simple formation is pro-
`vided; it is ornamental in appearance; the
`semi-spherical design of the support serves
`to preservethe shade and protect the same
`against undue wear and tear along its edges
`as it isrolled or unrolled, and above all, it
`may. be quickly applied and securely held
`in position Without resorting to the use of
`separate fastenings. By placing the fas—
`tening ‘13 axially of the support ‘10, much
`strain is removed from the bracket under
`the action of adjusting or pulling the shade
`and the device Will hot casually or acciden-
`tally become deranged from the frame.
