`Exhibit A: Origin and Breeding History for PHIKTF
`
`Pioneervariety PHAKTF, an inbred of yellow corn (Zea mays L.), was developed by Pioneer Hi-BredInternational, Inc.
`from a cross made in 2005 in New Holland, Pennsylvania between PHWON x PHFOD(PVPCertificate No, 200800243)
`using the pedigree methodof plant breeding. Varieties PHWON and PHFOD are proprietary inbred lines of PioneerHi-
`Bred International, Inc. PHVVON was developed from PH890 (PVP Certificate No. 200300224) x PHCKV. PHCKV was
`developed from Pioneer proprietary inbreds PHSEP x PH2KM. PH5EP was developed from PH42B (PVP Certificate No.
`9600201) x PH9T7. PH9T7 was developed from PHW52 (PVP Certificate No. 8800215) x PHP38 (PVP Certificate No.
`9000250). PH2KM was developed from PHR61 (PVP Certificate No. 8100100) x PHHB9 (PVP Certificate No, 9300108).
`
`During line development, crosses were madeto inbred testers for the purpose of estimating hybrid combining ability.
`Yield trials were grown at Windfall, Indiana and other Pioneer research locations.
`
`The criteria used in the selection of PHIKTF wereyield per se and yield in hybrid combination. Late seasonplant health,
`grain quality, and stalk lodging resistance were important criteria considered during selection. Other selection criteria
`include: ability to germinate in adverse conditions, disease and insect resistance, pollen production and tassel size.
`
`Variety PHIKTF has shown uniformity and stability for 6 generations and forall traits observed as described in Exhibit C —
`Objective Description of Variety.
`
`No variants have been observed or are expected in PHIKTF.

`Variety PH1KTF is most similar to Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. proprietary inbred line PHCER (PVP Certificate No.
`200500257). Variety PH1KTFis significantly different from PHCERin the following traits (see Table 1).
`
`Variety PHIKTF has:
`a greater average number of nodes above ground (13.3 nodes for PHIKTFvs 12.1 nodes for PHCER)
`— a longer average central tassel spike length (24.9 cm for PH1KTF vs 21.7 cm for PHCER)
`~— a longer average tassel length (51.9 cm for PH1KTFvs 46.7 cm for PHCER)
