`
`Exhibit A. Origin and Breeding History for PHE2E
`
`Pedigree: PH6JG/PH5W4)XA42313121X
`
`Pioneer Line PHE2E, Zea mays L., a yellow endospermcorn inbred, was developed by PioneerHi-
`Bred International, Inc. from the single cross hybrid PH6JG X PHSW4(PVP Certificate No.
`200100244) using the pedigree method of plant breeding. Varieties PH6JG and PH5W4are
`proprietary inbred lines of Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. Variety PH6JG wasderived by pedigree
`selection from the single cross hybrid PHOJTX PHHB9 (PVP Certificate No. 9300108). Selfing was
`practiced from the above hybrid for 10 generations using pedigree selection. During line development,
`crosses were madeto inbred testers for the purpose of estimating the line's combiningability. Yield
`trials were grown at Union City, Tennessee as well as other Pioneer research locations. After initial
`testing, additional hybrid combinations have been evaluated and subsequent generationsofthe line
`have been grown and hand-pollinated with observations again made for uniformity.
`
`Variety PHE2E has shown uniformity and stability forall traits as described in Exhibit C - "Objective
`Description of Variety". It has been self-pollinated and ear-rowed 8 generations with careful attention
`paid to selectioncriteria and uniformity ofplant type to assure genetic homozygosity and phenotypic
`stability. The line has been increased both by hand andinisolated fields with continued observations
`for uniformity and stability, and for 5 generations during the final stages of inbred development and
`seed multiplication. Very high standards for genetic purity have beenestablished morphologically
`using field observations and using sound lab molecular marker methodology.
`
`No variant traits have been observed or are expected in PHE2E.
`
`Thecriteria used in the selection of PHE2E wereyield, both per se and in hybrid combinations. Late
`seasonplant health, grain quality, and stalk lodging resistance, were important criteria considered
`during selection. Other selection criteria include: ability to germinate in adverse conditions, disease
`and insect resistance, pollen yield andtasselsize.
`
`*
`
`PHOST was derived from PHBA3 X PHPB3. PHBA3wasderived from PHW52 (PVP
`Certificate No. 8800215) X PHK29 (PVP Certificate No. 8700214). PHPB3 was derived
`from PHV35 X PHM24. PHV35 wasderived from G39 (PVP Certificate No. 8300115) X
`B73. PHM24 wasderived from Variety 422 and B64. Variety 422 was primarily derived
`from a cross of B37 with Variety 938. Variety 938 is a line tracing back to C103 and
`Mp3204.

`Exhibit B: Novelty Statement
`
`Variety PHE2E mostly resembles Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. proprietary inbred line PHSW4
`(PVP Certificate No. 200100244). Table 1 shows two sample t-tests on data collected primarily in
`Johnston and Dallas Center, Iowa in 2005 and 2006. Thetraits collectively show measurable
`differences betweenthe two varieties.
`
`Exhibit B: Novelty Statement
`
`Variety PHE2E hasa greater ear diameter (45.0 mm vs 40.4 mm) than variety PHSW4 (Table1).
`
`Variety PHE2E hasa greaterearinternode length (16.2 cm vs 12.2 cm) than variety PHSW4(Table 1).
`
`Variety PHE2Ehasa greater kernel length (12.3 mm vs 10.6 mm)than variety PHSW4 (Table1).
`
`Variety PHE2E hasa greater kernel width (8.9 mm vs 7.7 mm) than variety PHSW4(Table 1).
`
`Variety PHE2E hasa greater plant height (244.0 cm vs 209.6 cm) than variety PHSW4 (Table 1).
`
`Variety PHE2E hasa shortertassel central spike length (27.5 cm vs 32.2 cm) than variety PHS W4
