`
`Dear Joanne:
`
`As per your request, I have obtained the following results for the independent investigation
`performed on the mark ANSWER:
`
`I) ANSWER; Sterling Software of Chatsworth. CA: tel. # (8 I 8) 7 I 8-8877 — -
`‘
`Attached please find several business reports that refer to Sterling Software,
`which has been acquired by Computer Associates, as well as the company's web
`site (www.sterling.com) that links to the Computer Associates’ web site
`(www.ca.com), which includes references to the mark ANSWER.
`I have also
`included references to the mark in association with Sterling from the Internet and
`the All News file. A representative at the Computer Associates customer
`service phone line ((800) 225-5224) explained that the company does not have
`any product currently named ANSWER and that they have probably replaced it
`with another software solution.
`
`I hope this information is helpful.

`
`Major Enhancements:
`
`0 increased Maximum Number of Statements in Generated VlSl0N:Builder Requests
`The maximum number of statements has been increased from 999 to 551,368.
`VlSl0N:lnfon11 Release 3.1 provides for larger queries with increased selection criteria and
`processing requirements using VlSiON;Bridge and processing with the Background
`Processor (VlS|ON:Bullder). In previous releases of the product, you could build a valid query
`online (using VlSiON:Bridge) that was too large to be processed by the Background
`Processor. This enhancement removes that limitation.
`
`Foreground Library and Communication File Space Utilization
`VlSlON:lnform Release 3.1 provides space utilization statistics that you can use to predict
`when to resize the flies. Each time you run the V|SlON:lnform backup and restore utilities
`against the foreground library and the communication file, the utilities generate space
`utilization statistics. The backup and restore utilities write the space utilization statistics to the
`lNFPRlNT summary listing. For additional information on the utilities and lNFPRlNT. see the
`VlSlON:lnfonn Utilities Guide for your environment.
`. With the space utilization statistics. the system administrator can now determine:
`- When to allocate additional space for the library (usually when the number of available
`overflow blocks becomes too small).
`- When to increase the number of root blocks (usually when the number of available root
`blocks becomes too small).
`- When to increase the block sizes (usually when the number of overflow blocks becomes too
`high).
`— when to increase the bucket sizes (usually when the number of overflow blocks becomes
`too high).
`
`Communication File Purge Utility
`The Communication File Purge Utility scans the communication file for queries and tasks that
`are in READY status and purges those queries and tasks that are as old or older than a
`specified date parameter in MM/DDIYYYY format
`
`Query Migration Utility
`The Query Migration Utility copies items of type QUERY and STMTS from one VlSlON:lnform
`foreground library and then exports them to a second vlSi0N:lnforrn system.
`- You can use this utility to copy queries from a test system to a production system without re-
`keying the queries on the target system.
`- You can also copy queries from one user ID to another. "‘ me Same foreground library. or to
`a difierent foreground library.
`
`DISABLE Command .
`VlSlON:lnform Release 3.1 provides a command to disable selected queries.
`- You use the DISABLE command to change the status of an AWAlTlNG query to DISABLED
`to defer processing of selected queries.
`- You can use the existing ENABLE command to restore those queries to AWAITING status.
`
`Full Screen Editor Glossary Enhancements
`VlS|0N;|nform Release 3.1 provides two primary commands, DATAVIEW and i_-‘lELDS, to
`obtain information about a given database definition from the Editor panel.
`‘
`- This is the same information provided by the LISTLIB and GLOSSARY commands in the
`Command Input panel; however, you can now obtain this information without leaving the
`Editor panel.
`- HELP panels are available for each of the new DATAVIEW and FIELDS pop-up panels.
`
`DATAVIEW Primary Command
`The DATAVIEW primary command is the Full Screen Editor version of the Command input
`LISTLIB command that lists the available data views from a user's profile. Note: The term
`data view appears as one word in the product.
`_
`_
`- The list of selectable data views displays in the DATAVIEW pop-up panel within the Full
`Screen Editor session.

`The FIELDS primary command is the Full Screen Editor version of the Command input
`GLOSSARY command that displays a list of fields within a data view.

`a specific entry, or to the closest entry. rather than scrolling to find it. For uses with
`number of queries or profiles, the LOCATE command reduces the number of user interactions
`needed to position the cursor to the item.
`
`Increased MAXPAGE and NICRPAGE Values
`The MAXPAGE and MCRPAGE PARMBLK values (that control the amount of data per query
`stored in the communication file) have been increased to accommodate a larger number of
`pages of data. The MAXPAGE and MCRPAGE values have been increased from 32,767
`pages to a theoretical maximum of 99.999.999 pages of data.
`- The actual (or practical) space limitation for the communication file is less than the
`theoretical maximum value.
`- The maximum space allocation for the communication file is the VSAM CiSlZE multiplied by
`the maximum number of records a communication file can contain, (32l< x 32K). divided by
`the report record size (defaults to 133 bytes). This results in a practical maximum of
`8,073,246 pages.
`
`Three New PARMBLK Options
`VlSlON:lntorm Release 3.1 has three new PARMBLK options that add functionality and ease-
`of-use:
`These functions were previously implemented via RSMs. They are now available under user-
`control.
`- BGPRINT Restrict communication file print queue processing.
`- TMPSYNC File coordination with temporary fields.
`- ENQWAIT User specification of enqueue waits for timeout control.
`Restricted Communication File Print Queue Processing.
