Boolean Searches: AND, OR, NOT

Boolean searches allow you to combine keywords and phrases to search dockets. Below are some examples of boolean searches.

Proximity Searching

Find dockets where two keywords are within a certain number of words of each other. Proximity searches are useful to find keywords used in the same sentence or paragraph.

Wildcards allow you to expand your search to find similar words.

  • clar!: matches clarify and clarification. Use an exclamation mark to match a root word and all words made by adding letters to the end of it.
  • wom*n: matches woman and women. Use an asterisk to match single characters.

Search for keywords within particular fields to find parties, judges, or dockets.

Use quotes to find an exact match.

Complex Queries

Use parenthesis to combine different queries.
